چکیده

ZrO2 nanograins annealed at different temperatures are systematically investigated using x-ray diffraction ~XRD! and Raman spectroscopy. Our results show that bulk properties of nano-ZrO2 diminish but the defect-, surface-, and size-related features display as grain size decreases. A critical size that divides respective predominance is determined to be about 15 nm. Both XRD and Raman spectra of nano-ZrO2 of size above 15 nm are similar to bulk ones. On the contrary, those of nano-ZrO2 of size below 15 nm are deteriorated bulk spectra with spectroscopic line broadening and merging, line intensity reducing, and position shifting. Deteriorated XRD spectra are essentially associated with increasing defects in small nanograins. General mode softening, a surface mode around 1040 cm and 14 weak second-order ~overtone and combination! modes are characteristics of Raman spectra of nano-ZrO2 below 15 nm. They are associated with microstructure change of nanograins, i.e., they reflect the effects of grain size, surface, and the interaction between nanograins. @S0163-1829~99!02803-9#

From Zirconium Nanograins to Zirconia Nanoneedles

Combinations of three simple techniques were utilized to gradually form zirconia nanoneedles from zirconium nanograins. First, a physical vapor deposition magnetron sputtering technique was used to deposit pure zirconium nanograins on top of a substrate. Second, an anodic oxidation was applied to fabricate zirconia nanotubular arrays. Finally, heat treatment was used at different annealing temp...

Thermal annealing study of swift heavy-ion irradiated zirconia

Sintered samples of monoclinic zirconia (α-ZrO2) have been irradiated at room temperature with 6.0-GeV Pb ions in the electronic slowing down regime. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and micro-Raman spectroscopy measurements showed unambiguously that a transition to the ‘metastable’ tetragonal phase (β-ZrO2) occurred at a fluence of 6.5x10 cm for a large electronic stopping power value (≈ 32.5 MeV μm). ...

Effect of Ge Content on the Formation of Ge Nanoclusters in Magnetron-Sputtered GeZrOx-Based Structures

Ge-rich ZrO2 films, fabricated by confocal RF magnetron sputtering of pure Ge and ZrO2 targets in Ar plasma, were studied by multi-angle laser ellipsometry, Raman scattering, Auger electron spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction for varied deposition conditions and annealing treatments. It was found that as-deposited films are homogeneous for all Ge content...

Annealing of α-decay damage in zircon: a Raman spectroscopic study

Recrystallization and structural recovery in α-decay damage in zircon samples have been studied using Raman spectroscopy. Fifteen zircon samples with different degrees of radiation damage have been thermally annealed between 600 K and 1800 K for up to 28 days and 8 hours. The experimental results from this study reveal that recrystallization in the damaged zircon samples is a multi-stage proces...

Optical and photocatalytic properties Undoped and Mn-doped ZnO nanoparticles synthesized by hydrothermal method: Effect of annealing temperature

Undoped and Mn-doped ZnO nanoparticles were successfully prepared by the hydrothermal method with different annealing temperature conditions. Structural, chemical and optical properties of the samples were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Field Emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), UV-Vis spectrophotometry and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The phase purity was con...
